Sweat Loss Case Study Results
team nerd
Over the Easter long weekend we asked our nerd subscribers to send us their long run sweat loss results.
92 runners sent in their hourly sweat loss and it had to be an AEROBIC or easy run (zone 2 HR/pace or below).
RESULTS:
1.25L per hour on average.
At nerd belts we harp on about runners losing between 1-3L per hour in sweat at a moderate pace (tempo pace)... with these losses higher in summer or at race pace. Even us at nerd belts were shocked by the data collected with some runners losing 2-2.5L in sweat per hour.
So if we're losing 1.25L on average during our easy aerobic runs in cooler weather (not the middle of summer now), how much are we losing per hour come race day?!?
We encourage everyone to weigh in before and after their next key half or full marathon training session and ensure you know you losses at higher paces too. It can assist massively with race day hydration planning. Don't slow down with severe dehydration come race day, plan wisely.
